How do you involve parents in nursery life?

Posted in Parents Blog

When circumstances allow and the time is right, we like to get parents involved in many aspects of nursery life. Children love to see their parents joining in, and this helps to create a happy, healthy and positive learning environment.  From Christmas nativity plays, to our hugely popular sports day, and Easter egg hunt/bonnet parade, parents are always welcome at Elm Park and are very much part of the family.

An open door policy

We have an open door policy where parental involvement is both valued and encouraged. Elm Park understands that as your child begins nursery, it is important that you feel they are in safe, capable hands that you can trust. Our open door policy means that you can pop in anytime to talk to us about your child’s progress, discuss any concerns or special requests, or to just see what your child is up to.  All that we ask is that you give us a quick call to arrange.

We know that some parents might not be able to pop in and chat when they are working

We do, of course, understand that some parents only have a few minutes at either end of the day to be involved.  We also understand that they still need to be in touch with their child’s early years development.  That’s why we use The Learning Journal.

The Learning Journal

As a Montessori nursery, Elm Park uses ‘My Montessori Child’ online learning journal.
My Montessori Child enables teachers to record observations of children’s activities in a manner that’s faithful to Dr Montessori’s method, principles and values. The system automatically uses those observations to track Montessori progress, to generate statutory reports on child development, to support teacher planning, and to facilitate parent-teacher collaboration in furthering a child’s progress.

A sense of common purpose

Our view of working alongside parents is that we both have a part to play in nurturing, encouraging and developing the children in our care – and that’s why parent partnerships are important to us.

Elm Park Nursery, Clapham provides little ones with a home from home experience. When you need to be at work and have to leave your baby or child with someone else, you can be confident that we nurture and encourage your son or daughter, through his or her tender early years.  Whether your child joins our beautiful baby suite, lower or upper school, our amazing team will make sure they go home having had the best day ever!
